About Maurille
Maurille Hammond (Geppetto’s Gallery) is a self-taught wood carver who has produced well over 100 pieces of art. Born in Quebec, Maurille came to Saskatchewan in 1960 and has been a resident of Shaunavon, SK since 1965.
Maurille takes much of his inspiration from woodland and prairie landscapes, and Christian themes. His carvings depict scenes of wildlife, diverse cultures, and grain elevators to name a few, but his most challenging pieces are that of a 7-foot crucifix and the 14 Stations of the Cross located in Christ the King Church in Shaunavon. Each piece of art is made entirely from one piece of wood. |
